For keen (or even just budding) eventers there are four levels of horse trials competitions, all of which are open to both teams and individuals;

  • 80cm
  • 90cm
  • 100cm
  • Open – SJ fences up to 110cm, XC fences up to 100cm

Please note that due to the nature of the competition, a large number of volunteers are required to run this qualifier. ECCTG policy is that each rider must nominate a helper for the day, in order that we can cover all allocated duties. It is usually the case that each helper will only be required for half a day and all efforts are made to ensure this coincides with the rider’s times, to avoid extra long days. Competitors wishing to ‘pair up’ with other members to offer a single volunteer but for a full day are welcome to do so.

The championships, usually held at Swalcliffe Park, are in the format of a standard one day event (80 class), long format two day event (90) or long format three day event (100 and open). Long format means they include roads and tracks and steeplechase and are tremendous fun. Don’t worry though – the club will provide lots of support to qualifiers who have not done a long format event before!

If you are interested in representing the club at horse trials, contact one of the Chef d’Equipes. Eligibility criteria and further details of the competition are available in the BRC Rulebook.
