FOTH Challenge – Chef’s Report

A very pleasant day at Smallwood Livery Centre on Saturday 1st October – ECCTG members rode beautifully and with great judgement (with the exception of the chef d’equipe but fortunately her team had the sense to ignore her advice on suitable speeds and lines) and the Challenge 80 team (the Marmalades) and the Challenge 100 team (the Tabbies) both won and have qualified for the Championships next year.  There were individual placings for Sue O’Leary (2nd), Lauren Murphy (3rd), Jane Valentine (4th) in the 80, Ashley Daniels (4th) in the 90, Emmelia Davidson Slack (2nd) and Ashley Daniels (3rd) in the 100 – it was great to have new or newish members representing us for the first time – Sally Raw-Rees, Jane Valentine, and Emmelia Davidson Slack.

Our helpers were models of efficiency and diplomacy – Sally Filby who was to be a splendid team member but unfortunately Rodney was temporarily off the road volunteered to help – marvellous – and Maggie Marinkovic came for the day with her invaluable scoring expertise. Tim our Treasurer added his eagle eye to the scorers’ tent and our riders found lovely family members to judge fences or pick up poles. Anne Dawson, the Chief Steward for the day asked for many thanks and much appreciation to go to all helpers – particularly good she said.

The day ran smoothly – we would like to thank the Area 20 committee members who ran the event – a lot of work – Ann on the day and before, Peter, (helpers before the day) and Jan Freeman (entries, times etc etc) we know about and all the behind the scenes folks – great stuff – many thanks.

Teams: Jane Valentine, Lauren Murphy, Sue O’Leary and Libby Richards, (80) and Rebecca Bush, Emmelia Davidson-Slack, Ashley Daniels and Hannah Mulliner (who stepped in at the very last minute – super sub – always great to have Hannah on a team) (100) – and individuals – Juliet Foden, Sally Raw-Rees and Ashley on her smaller model – a good time was had by all!!!
